Night/Day Eight…Hearty Chili

If you need a protein packed meal, here it is! 🙂

When you wake up and the wind sounds like it’s going to blow your windows in on you, it’s a good day for soup.  So, for Sunday dinner, we had chili!  This is a basic family recipe we’ve used for years, but since I’ve been married, I’ve started playing around with it a little bit.  I made enough of it so I could freeze some and maybe use it later for a cold day’s lunch, or maybe chili dogs and chili mac.  We eat peanut butter sandwiches with our chili, but it’s great with cornbread, too!  If you need an easy cornbread recipe, check here:


2 lb Ground Chuck

1 Packet McCormick’s Chili Seasoning (I used mild)

16 oz Tomato Sauce

16 oz Can of Refried Beans

16 oz Can of Chili Beans

16 oz Can of Seasoned Kidney Beans (I used Bush’s)

16 oz Can of Seasoned Diced Tomato Sauce for Chili (Hunt’s)

16 oz Can of Diced Tomatoes

46 oz Tomato Juice

1/2 cup Diced Green Peppers

2 Tbsp Minced Onion

1 Tbsp Chili Powder

2 Tbsp Garlic Salt

Brown hamburger in large pot.  Drain, put back in pot.  Add remaining ingredients, stir, and let simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Helpful hint: Most people believe that the longer you let chili simmer, the better the flavor.  I completely agree!
